LSE100 Award Winners Reception 2025

This year’s LSE100 Awards Reception took place on Wednesday 8 October! The LSE100 team were thrilled to be joined by students and staff from across the School to celebrate the talent, commitment and achievements of the award winners from the 2024/25 first-year undergraduate cohort.

Over drinks and canapés on the 8th Floor of the Cheng Kin Ku Building, we celebrated as students received their awards for the Raymond Huang Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement and the Huang Khong Chui Lin Prize for Exceptional Academic Performance on LSE100. Of more than 1,800 students, 44 winners from across 14 different Departments were recognised with LSE100 awards.

We were delighted to welcome Professor Emma McCoy, Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) who delivered a warm opening address to this year’s winners. Professor McCoy spoke about how continually impressed she is by the creativity, insight and quality of work produced by students on LSE100. She highlighted how the skills and perspectives developed through the course not only enrich students’ time at LSE but also shape their professional journeys beyond it, encouraging this year’s awardees to continue nurturing and celebrating their interdisciplinary thinking as they move forward.

Dr Chris Blunt and Dr Jillian Terry, Associate Professors (Education) and LSE100 Co-Directors, awarded the prizes throughout the evening, starting with the winners of the Raymond Huang Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement. This prize acknowledges the exceptional, creative and collaborative interdisciplinary work demonstrated in students’ LSE100 group research projects. It is awarded to groups who were nominated by their teacher in recognition of these students’ commitment to interdisciplinary investigation, effective collaboration and engaging communication skills.

These students represent the top 9 of 360 groups who completed group research projects during their time on LSE100 in 2024/25.

Ahead of each group being awarded their prize, words from their nominating LSE100 seminar teacher were shared with the reception audience and further demonstrated how groups from across all three course themes embody innovative, interdisciplinary research. In addition to the words shared by Dr Blunt and Dr Terry, LSE100 Fellows Dr Joseph Appleton and Dr Moé Suzuki shared insightful speeches about their respective groups and the students' excellent work.

After this, Dr Blunt and Dr Terry awarded the Huang Khong Chui Lin Prize for Exceptional Academic Performance to Sacha Brochen (BSc Mathematics & Economics). This prestigious prize is awarded to the students – or students – who receive the highest overall mark on LSE100 each year.

This year’s LSE100 awards and prize reception were made possible by the generous philanthropic support received from LSE alumna Alice Huang. We were also delighted to have Alice Huang join Dr Terry and Dr Blunt on this year’s award selection panel.
