Do things your way

Opportunities are a great way to broaden your horizons, meet people, and discover new interests.

It's also fantastic to have so many available to you with a wide variety to choose from. However, be selective about the opportunities you’d like to participate in. With so many options, it can sometimes feel like you’ve missed out on something, or that everyone else is taking part in things and you’re not.

Finding a study-life balance that works for you is important for your wellbeing. There is no need to sign-up for every opportunity that presents itself. Instead, think about the time commitment involved, and what you’re hoping to get out of it.

For example:

  • Consider what you’d enjoy spending your time doing (this might be getting involved with societies, mentoring, or volunteering).
  • Think about what’s important to you – perhaps it’s promoting inclusivity, sustainability, or helping others.
  • Pick opportunities which you feel would be beneficial for you in the future. These could be opportunities that enable you to build confidence, sharpen your employability/entrepreneurial skills, or to gain experience which will help you to stand out from other candidates.
