Zinc Innovation Internships 2022-23

Zinc builds brand-new companies from scratch to develop products and services that respond to urgent societal challenges. We’re looking for ambitious PhD students from a range of academic backgrounds, who are passionate about one or more of our missions to: improve mental health; tackle challenges relating to the future of work; support healthy ageing, and reduce environment harms. You can read more about this opportunity here.

Congressional Budget Office Summer Internship Program

This is a unique paid program that allows master's and PhD students to obtain real-life experience in policymaking and the federal budget process. Usually seek students pursuing degrees in economics, public policy, public affairs, health policy, finance and other quantitative fields.

Students should submit a cover letter indicating their skills for and interest in an internship, a resume, unofficial copy of transcripts (first-year graduate students MUST also submit an unofficial copy of their undergraduate transcripts) and contact information for 2 references (preferably an employment and academic) at www.cbo.gov/careers.  

Applications are usually received in February every year. CBO can consider US citizens and noncitizens who are permanent residents of the US seeking citizenship. We do not sponsor.


 

The Brilliant Club Tutoring

Faculty Fellowships in Data Science

Paid 8 weeks long training in classroom and on-the-job settings. Also Faculty host regular webinars on how to enter the field. https://faculty.ai/fellowship-fellows/

Public Affairs Newsletter

Megan Marsh, LSE Senior Public Affairs Officer, receives notification of parliamentary opportunities for PhD researchers. She posts them in a weekly Public Affairs Newsletter available online to LSE staff and students. To subscribe, email comms.publicaffairs@lse.ac.uk


 

The Alan Turing Enrichment Scheme

This scheme offers students currently enrolled on a doctoral programme at a UK university the opportunity to enrich their doctoral studies by building connections with The Alan Turing Institute and engaging with its diverse community of researchers. Students continue their doctorate with their current supervisor at their home university, while gaining the opportunity to learn new methodologies, build new collaborations and develop research independence.

Other Opportunities

International Organisations such as the UN,  The World Bank, the OECD, and the  IMF, all hire PhD interns.

Commercial Organisations and Consultancies such as BCG, McKinsey and Bain offer PhD or advanced degree internship opportunities and recruit every year.

Zinc Innovation Internships 2021-22

We’re looking for ambitious PhD students from a range of academic backgrounds, who are passionate about one or more of our missions to: improve mental health; enhance the quality of later life; and unlock new life chances for people affected by automation and globalisation. We are particularly interested in recruiting students with an interest in our current mission focus on improving mental health for children and young people.

To apply, you'll need a short CV and a 2-page (~800 word) cover letter explaining why you're interested in working with us. Once you've submitted these, we'll also ask you to submit a 2-minute video telling us a bit more about how an Innovation Internship with Zinc will support your longer-term career goals.

LSE Generate Accelerator Programme - GAP 3.0 

GAP is a 12-week part-time accelerator programme dedicated to the most promising early-stage startups co-founded by LSE students, staff, and alumni. They are on the hunt for ten commercially viable startups that exhibit potential in attaining at least one of the UNSDGs through entrepreneurial activities.


The programme will be offering you: 

  • £5,000 grant per team 
  • Access to co-working space at the heart of LSE (government regulations permitting) 
  • Ongoing support from two experienced Entrepreneurs-in-Residence 
  • Sessions with Experts in their respective fields 
  • Access to our Investors-in-Residence.. and more!

LSE Generate Funding Competition

Lent Term funding competition is now open and we welcome Founders from across the School (including alumni) to submit their applications for a chance to win up to 20k plus a mentoring package.  

You are invited to submit a pitch deck and video that will be screened by our expert panel and 14 Founders (and their teams if applicable) will be invited to come to Liverpool (or via zoom if international) to present the idea in front of our dragon's den investment team. For more information and to apply please visit the LSE Generate Funding Competition webpage
