Learning for existing managers

If you are a people manager at LSE, you should be aware of the key expectations that the School has of you in your role and that directly link to our strategy. These are that you:

  • Achieve results through other people

  • Lead and develop people

  • Are a compassionate leader

If you are not aware of this or what this means for your role as a people manager, you are strongly encouraged to complete the LSE Manager programme. This programme establishes what is expected of people managers at the School and what this means for you. More information on this programme can be found here.

If you have not completed the programme, we’d strongly recommend you do before accessing any of the content below.

Management development opportunities

There are a range of courses, online learning and wider qualifications and programmes available to you as an existing people manager at LSE. We’ve broken these down below by the three areas of LSE people management and you’ll find classroom and online workshops, eLearning courses (45 mins+), microlearning (15-30 mins) and other areas of support for each section below.

Achieving results through other people

Courses and workshops

LSE manager bringing policy to life

This training offering for managers builds upon what was previously titled the 'LSE Manager Lunchtime Learning' sessions. If you're in a management position within the School, LSE Manager: Bringing Policy to Life will show you good practice ways to approach key HR topics - enabling you both to meet your responsibilities as a manager and to develop in your role.

Recruitment and selection

This course is suitable for line managers who manage one or more members of staff and who are going to be recruiting new members of staff, or staff who are going to be part of a recruitment panel.

Coaching skills for managers

This is an interactive online workshop for managers to further develop their coaching skills and integrate coaching into their management approach. Applying a coaching approach to performance and team management can help build greater team engagement and promote more positive working relationships. This course is designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of how to create and develop a coaching culture within their teams.

Managing performance positively

This course is designed for managers to effectively manage the individual performance of their staff.  It will explore individuals who are performing at three different levels against expected performance.

Building a high-performing team

This course covers the additional strategies needed over and above managing the individuals in your team to address the context of managing the team itself. 60 years of research has shown us that the tendency of every team is towards dysfunctional behaviours; this course addresses why that is the case and why it isn’t necessary inevitable by providing empirically based team working solutions to create that high-performing team.

Please be aware that different courses and workshops may be available at any given time.
