LSE Manager: Bringing Policy to Life

Sessions for managers on key people management topics

good practice ways to approach key HR topics

Welcome to LSE Manager: Bringing Policy to Life. This training offering for managers builds upon what was previously titled the 'LSE Manager Lunchtime Learning' sessions. If you're in a management position within the School, LSE Manager: Bringing Policy to Life will show you good practice ways to approach key HR topics - enabling you both to meet your responsibilities as a manager and to develop in your role.

Each session lasts 2 hours. After a policy-based introduction to the topic in question, there will be interactive group work as well as plenty of opportunities to ask questions and explore good practice approaches that managers should find useful. Each session will be advertised via an invitation email from the COO as well as in Staff News.

As more staff return to campus, sessions will continue to be held via Zoom until further notice and a link will be sent to all delegates shortly before each session.

Autumn Term 2023 sessions

Flexible working

10.00am - 12.00pm Thursday 16 November

With many LSE staff working a blended arrangement during the working week, flexible working remains an important means of enabling individual staff to request particulat working patterns that enable them to meet commitments outside work and maintain a satisfactory work-life balance. Given the updates to LSE's Flexible Working Policy earlier in 2023 - in particular enabling staff to request flexible working from day one of employment - this is a highly topical session for managers who would like to learn more about the latest provisions and their own responsibilities. A range of case studies will enable you to explore and discuss the most current issues around flexible working, as well as share hints and advice with colleagues.

Given the greater attention in recent times to how employers support the wellbeing of their staff, this session is a timely opportunity to explain and explore LSE's policies and related resources that support staff wellbeing and mental health. You'll learn best practice approaches to handling discussions about wellbeing and mental health through case studies, develop useful hints and tips, and understand what other support is available to you as a manager. The session will also explore how a range of issues (such as workload, caring responsibilities, the practical implications of remote working and more) can impact on staff, and how you as a manager can help to address these.
