About MI

Within Planning Division, the Management Information team is responsible for providing data and analysis to support decision-making activities for the School.
 

Responsibilities

We promote co-ordinated management information working in several key areas:

  • Undertaking census counts of the School Population for planning and resource allocation, including publicly available student data as well as internal data visualisations.
  • Analysis of School activities relating to Widening Participation, Student Experience and Careers.
  • Promotion of Tableau - the School’s visualisation tool - and production of resources for Tableau developers at the School, such as the Data Visualisation Style Guide for design principles.
  • Joint responsibility for the Data and Management Information Strategy with DTS and leading on the development of a data platform for the School in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Management of access to Heidi Plus - an analysis resource for UK benchmarking - and promotion of external resources on UK higher education.
  • Co-ordination and submission of several statutory returns including: HESES, HE-BCI and Provider Profile. Support of other statutory activities with data and analysis.

Summer Term 2023/24

•  Ellen Austin has left LSE to join UPP as a Senior Data Analyst. We want to thank Ellen for her dedication and impact, and wish her all the best in their new role.

•  The Data & Tools Usage Survey on accessing and consuming data has closed and the results are being analysed by DTS.

•  Data platform update: The procurement process is underway and Microsoft partners are being considered for invitation to tender.

•  New dashboards and analysis: Market Diversity dashboard, A-Level Frequency Analysis report, Graduate Outcomes dashboard (updated)

•  We are delighted to welcome new team members Lorna Stevenson as Senior Data Analyst (Education and Student Experience) and Sudha Vijay on secondment as Assistant Planning Officer (Careers).

•  The Department Profiles 2024 showing a range of departmental activity have been updated. Financial data will be added in September 2024.

Autumn Term 2024/25

•  We are delighted to welcome Ruairi Cahill-Fleury as Planning Officer (League Tables) to focus on university league table reporting and data submission.

•  New dashboards and analysis: Applications, Offers and Entrants dashboard.

Winter Term 2024/25

•  Jenna Cunningham has joined as Planning Officer (Surveys) to focus on the NSS and internal student surveys. Welcome to the team.

•  We have undertaken some maintenance work on two our data sources (Student Population and Course Results). In preparation for this change we have undertaken checks against current published data and whilst we expect some minor changes to outputs on some dashboards connected to these data source, we do not anticipate any large-scale differences. If you spot anything unusual on Tableau dashboards please get in touch.

•  Data platform update: Avanade has been selected as the Microsoft partner to support delivery of the data platform. 

•  A new dashboard has been developed to display the results of the Welcome Survey 2024/25 covering each question in the survey.

•  A Programme Leadership collection has been created for Programme Directors and other programme leaders. This contains three new dashboards to show course uniformity on programmes, programme courses available and programme courses taken.

•  The first analysis on survey respondent groups across LSE programme and courses surveys has been in the Survey Respondent Analysis, as students with different characteristics respond to the surveys at different rates.
