We are currently unable to purchase or offer support for e-reader and notepad devices such as Remarkable, Kindles, Boox etc. Unfortunately, these devices are not compatible with LSE’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems. These are the systems ensure that we adhere to a "Device Level Security Minimum Standard" and these can be found on this page: https://info.lse.ac.uk/staff/services/Policies-and-procedures
Regrettably, this means we are unable to offer a minimum level of security assurance in the following areas:
All Devices
1. Any mobile device including laptop, tablet, smart phone, external storage device, that’s used to store, access, process, share the LSE data must have full drive encryption applied.
2. A strong encryption key will be used for any encrypted volumes, enclosures or files. It must at least meet LSE’s Password Policy.
3. Keep the Operating System of the device up to date by installing security patches as soon as they are released.
4. If the Operating System can no longer be updated, the device must be replaced, and must not be used to store LSE data.
5. Keep other software up to data by implementing security patches as soon as they are released
The nearest alternative to these devices would be an iPad with a paper like screen protector. It is appreciated this is a more expensive option, but as indicated the Kindle devices are unable to meet all of the above minimum security requirements.
