3. Policies and practices

Our work on policies and practices:

  • Reviewing the Trans Inclusion Policy; identifying areas for improvement and developing appropriate guidance to support translation of policy to practice.
  • Reviewing policy and practices on changing names and pronouns at LSE for staff, students and alumni; and implementing improvements to ensure these processes are more efficient.
  • Ensuring inclusive categorisation in staff and student surveys and data collection, aligned with national data and HESA requirements.
  • Reviewing and updating recruitment and development policies and guidance; ensuring that the recruitment toolkit for managers covers all protected characteristics.
  • Reviewing our policies, processes and procedures to ensure comprehensive focus on all protected characteristics.

Outcomes and impact:

  • Clear guidelines on trans inclusion practices for trans students and staff, as well as for those supporting trans students and staff.
  • Accurate and inclusive representation of the LGBTQ+ community at LSE in data records.
  • Managers improve their understanding of best practice in inclusive recruitment practices.
  • Improvement of the experience of trans, non-binary and gender non-confoming students and staff.
  • Improved guidance and clarity on safeguarding issues for all protected characteristics.
