As we build our LGBTQ+ Inclusive Action Plan, LSE confirms its ongoing commitment to supporting our School community as we look at shaping our approach and next steps.
LSE is absolutely committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and promoting a positive culture for work, study and research – which celebrates difference, challenges prejudice and ensures fairness. Everyone at LSE should have the opportunity to excel, be respected and valued for their unique perspectives and contributions.
It’s important to reinforce our institution’s clear and unwavering commitment to all across our LGBTQ+ community – including everyone’s safety and support.
LSE’s School Management Committee identified three requirements that must be incorporated into the next stage of planning as part of this critical work, sustaining and strengthening ongoing activities to deliver meaningful change now to benefit all students and staff.
These are that:
- We build on extensive consultations in recent years, and steps already taken, we will continue with action planning at pace, widening this out to incorporate student as well as alumni considerations. This work is underway and will seek community input, to help LSE understand what is most important for staff and students.
- External advice is embedded into LSE’s approach to assist in monitoring progress against delivery of our workplace action plan and LGBTQ+ commitments, ensuring accountability and guidance from both inside and outside LSE so that we are aligned with wider good practice around equity, diversity and inclusion. This includes drawing on peer institutions’ best practice.
- There is ongoing and enhanced assistance, including additional finances for Spectrum, our LGBTQ+ staff network, alongside other EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) areas at our School.
The EDI team is taking forward our LGBTQ+ action planning, looking across a range of activity and identifying our most immediate priorities and community engagement in the process. Information will be shared more widely in the coming weeks, to gather feedback, ideas, and input.
