Faith Centre Furniture

Furniture Design Competition

In 2016 we ran a competition for young designers with the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers to commission some new furniture to compliment the desert window. This was made possible by a generous donation by Dr. and Mrs Samuel Macharia in memory of LSE alumnus Mburu Kiereini.

The winning design was submitted by Jamie Gilchrist and adopted the theme of branches growing in the desert. Jamie made the furniture himself from American walnut and oak.

"The intention with these pieces was to provide a sense of physical place within the larger abstract space represented by the window - a specific point within the desert around which to congregate and from which to venture out into that larger idea. It is my hope that the furniture will serve as something of an intermediary between the physical place of the Faith Centre and the abstract, mental space sought through it."
