The 3 most important aspects of your London life

The 3 most important aspects of your London life are academic, professional and personal life. You will find yourself spending most of your time and energy which contribute to any of these departments and the sooner you start managing resources given your priorities the better balance you will be able to attain that satisfies you.

Here are some tips to stay on top of the game for all three aspects:

Academic Tips

Constantly learning and reading is the top tip. I mean you are here at LSE, no matter which course you are doing, you need to know the basics of what is happening in the world and why. And then building from the basic knowledge, you must have specific knowledge about your field. Know different schools of thoughts and different approaches to the same problem will open up our mind and make you aware of various views that you are likely to ascertain in your class.

First time studying such intense theorists and kind of clueless about how to write those essays? LSE LIFE can be really helpful in that regard. They have workshops designed to help every level of student in every aspect of academics. From how to read effectively, to writing with a strong argument. They even provide talks on how to make effective notes and think critically, because that is an art too.

Conducting research and getting help with the numbers are all made easy with the tutorial support that LSE LIFE provides all at your convenience. All in all, it is a great place to get your life balanced and organised and gain some much needed help. Apart from that, LSE faculty is also very helpful and they would love for you to ask when you need help.

Constantly be on top of things, a week of slacking can really cost you. Moreover, if you are organised and manage time well it will not be as overwhelming as it would be if you leave everything for reading week or the day before the exams.

Professional Tips

It is the start of your professional journey if you are right out of school or probably you have some experience if you are in your master's. Either way, this is a new turn in your professional life. If you are lucky enough to know exactly what you want, then simply make use of the placement opportunities at LSE and pick the one that fits your career plan. Keep networking and look out for people who have done what you want to do, and you can learn a lot from their experience.

However, if you are one of the many who are still figuring their passion in life, the first thing is please don’t feel alone. It's okay to be unsure, it is more than okay to be honest and we will all find our way just fine. So, be patient. LSE offers a number of avenues where you can seek help and find professional help as well as meet people who might be on the same boat as you.

LSE Careers have professionals you can meet with, who will try their level best to give you one on one feedback to navigate step by step through your career. They will help you with your CV, interviews, cover letters and even clearing help you weigh your options so that you make the best choice about your career.

Moreover, LSE Careers have regular events with professionals from various fields, coming in to give you advice and network with. They also have regular job fairs which can help you land up various roles where you can gain some relevant experience. So, be on your toes and be familiar with the LSE careers page and don’t let this help be a missed opportunity.

Sometimes, we might not get what we really wanted to do, but it's okay and there is something better waiting for you. During this time, get involved in some volunteering activities which could also help you find your passion. LSE Generate could help you realize your entrepreneurial goals; which you probably did not think you could do. Leadership positions in societies that interest you, could also be a space for some skills development that can help you in your professional journey.

Also, be active on LinkedIn!

Personal Tips

This aspect of your journey is equally important, even though many students choose to ignore it. To be able to do well academically and professionally you need to take breaks and balance things out. Go on free exciting adventures with LSE LIFE to explore parts of London. Go on trips with LSE or just by your own and take a break. Attend the endless musicals, concerts, events, tournaments that the city has to offer. Pursue a hobby you have not had the time to.

LSE Students' Union (LSESU) from time to time keeps organizing really exciting events and socials, so do attend and meet new people. LSESU also offers gym, yoga, Zumba and a number of other fitness options you can choose from. Health should never be neglected on the back of your studies. Stay hydrated and find the people you can go to at the middle of the night. Communicate with family. Even make most of the breaks you get to actually rejuvenate. Put in your physical and mental energy in what deserves it and what benefits you positively. Wasting this energy, is not affordable!

That’s it! These are not anything you don’t already know. But as students we tend to forget or neglect these things, so this is just a reminder to balance out these three aspects at LSE, and it would be the experience you have hoped for.
