Booking and collecting tickets

You can request your ticket - and up to two guest tickets - free of charge for your graduation ceremony

Invitations

If you are due to graduate in the summer (July) ceremonies, you will receive an invitation email in February.

If you are due to graduate in the winter (December) ceremonies, you will receive an invitation email in August.

Research students must be awarded by 30 April to be invited to the summer ceremonies, and 30 September to be invited to the winter ceremonies.

In order to secure your tickets, you must submit a booking request by the deadline specified in the invitation. This is the case even if you have not received your results. Should you subsequently find that you have not successfully completed your degree, you will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony until you have, and we will automatically cancel your booking.

Ticket requests received after the deadline are unlikely to be accommodated.

Ceremony tickets are free of charge.

Booking tickets

Your invitation contains instructions on how to submit a booking request, including a link to the booking web form, and the booking deadline.

Please note that any bookings made after the deadline are not guaranteed.

Please note that the ceremonies may become fully booked after the deadline has passed.

By submitting a booking request, you will reserve your own ceremony ticket and have the opportunity to request up to two guest tickets. Extra guest tickets, beyond two per graduand, are unlikely to be available.

Once you submit your booking request, an automated email outlining your request is sent to the email address you have registered with the booking website. Please check these details to ensure the request you submitted is correct.

If you do not receive the automated email in your inbox, please check your junk/spam folder.

Important notes about the booking

  • If you and/or your guest(s) have any seating/mobility requirements, please be sure to notify us of these requests on the booking form so we can make any necessary arrangements.
  • The ceremonies are filmed and photographed. Film footage is made available as an online webcast. Photographs may be used on the LSE website and for LSE printed materials. By submitting a booking request, you grant permission for the School to film and photograph you and your guests for these purposes. Occasionally, LSE will also allow third parties to film the ceremonies in some exceptional circumstances.
  • Due to capacity limitations, unfortunately, only graduands who wish to participate in the ceremony are able to book tickets.
  • Neither graduand nor guest tickets are transferable.
  • If, after you have booked, you find you are unable to attend the ceremony, please submit an enquiry as soon as possible to cancel your tickets.
  • Graduands should ensure that any outstanding fees are settled prior to the ceremony days as anyone who owes money to the School is not permitted to attend the ceremony.
  • Make sure you enter your LSE ID number (found at the top of your LSE ID card) correctly when completing a booking form. An incorrect ID number could delay your booking.

Ticket confirmation

We will send an email to confirm ticket reservations and the date and time of your department's ceremony.

You will usually receive this confirmation shortly after the booking deadline - usually within the following week. If you have not received confirmation by this time, please check your spam folder before contacting us.

Special seating arrangements

Please log any special seating requirements due to, for example, visual impairment or mobility issues, on the booking form. Alternatively, you can submit an enquiry. We can usually make appropriate arrangements provided that we receive sufficient notice.

Tickets for children

All children aged over 24 months must have their own seat if attending the ceremony.

Children that are under 24 months and do not have a ticket will be expected to sit on the knee of their carer.

All children must be accompanied by an adult guest. They cannot sit next to the graduand.

Cancellations

If you wish to cancel your booking, please submit an enquiry as soon as possible. Should the need arise, it is your responsibility to contact Ede and Ravenscroft to arrange a refund.

Ticket collection

Tickets must be collected in person by the graduand from the Student Services Centre on the Ground Floor of the Old Building. You must present a physical copy of your LSE ID Card or another ID with a photograph of yourself.

Please allow plenty of time to collect your tickets on the ceremony day, particularly if you are attending a morning ceremony.

December 2024 ticket collection opening times:

  • Monday 16 December - 11am to 5pm
  • Tuesday 17 December - 7.30am to 6.30pm
  • Wednesday 18 December - 7.30am to 6.30pm
  • Thursday 19 December - 8am to 2pm

Latest ticket collection

Tickets will be available to collect up to 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony.

After this time, tickets will be re-allocated to those waiting in the return ticket queue.

If you arrive after the 30 minute deadline you may not be able to collect your guest tickets.

What to bring with you for collection

You will need to produce your LSE student card or another form of photo ID (e.g. passport or driving license) in order to collect your tickets.

Third parties are not able to collect tickets on your behalf.

Extra guest tickets on the day of the ceremony
The Returns Queue

On the day, last minute returned tickets and uncollected tickets will be given out to those in the return ticket queue.

The return ticket queue will open two hours before the ceremony is due to begin.

At 15 minutes before the ceremony is due to begin, any available tickets will be given out to those in the return ticket queue. Extra guests should then make their way to the Peacock Theatre. Each person in the queue can collect up to two tickets subject to availability.

The tickets given out to the returns queue are tickets for people that have not arrived for their ceremony. As such we cannot make any predictions as to their availability.

Because tickets have to be given out so close to the start of the ceremony it is important that the guest needing the ticket waits in the queue, not the graduand or guests who already have tickets. Guests in the queue do not need to have any ID to collect tickets.

If you have any questions on the day, please ask at the ticket collection desk.

Important notes

  • We cannot send tickets in the post
  • If you owe money to the School, you will not be able to collect tickets and attend the ceremony until outstanding fees are paid
  • Neither student nor guest tickets are transferable between students.
