Short Term Study Letters can only be requested in certain circumstances

Standard Visitor visa letter for short term study Letters can ONLY be requested by LSE students who are:

  • unregistered and required to return to the UK to undertake assessment(s) in January 2024
  • unregistered and required to return to the UK to undertake assessment(s) in May 2024
  • unregistered and required to return to the UK to undertake assessment(s) in IRDAP 2023
  • attending LSE for no longer than 6 months
  • If you are a visiting researcher, please do not use this request form, but contact Graduate Admissions for further assistance

When to request a letter?

  • If you require a Standard Visitor visa to return to the UK in January 2024, you can request a from October 2023 onwards.
  • If you require a Standard Visitor visa to return to the UK in May 2024, please request your letter on or after 1 February 2024.
  • If you require a Standard Visitor visa to return to the UK in IRDAP 2023, please request your letter on or after 4 July 2023
  • If you make your request during an LSE closure period it will take us longer to process it. 
  • Advice on whether a Standard Visitor visa is suitable for your plans can be obtained from the Student Advice and Engagement (Visa Advice) Team.

How to request a Standard Visitor Visa Letter

You can use the form below to request a Standard Visitor visa letter for short term study.

  • Please have your passport and current visa with you. It is your responsibility to fill in this form using correct information.
  • Please complete all fields.
  • You must ensure that your term-time contact address is updated in LSE for You before submitting your request.
  • Please double-check all information in the form.  
  • You will receive an email confirmation once we receive your request. If you do not receive an email confirmation, we have not received your request or you have entered an incorrect email address.

For unregistered students re-taking assessments or students who will be at LSE for less than six months.

    Your short-term study visa letter will be emailed to you. It will show your permanent home address as listed in LSE for You. Please ensure this record has been updated BEFORE submitting your request. You can update your details in New LfY. If you are unable to access your LSE account please contact Tech Support (DTS)
  • Please confirm that your address is correct

 

What happens next?

  • Providing your request has been made within the correct time period, your Standard Visitor Visa letter will be posted/emailed as soon as possible, and usually within one week of submission. 
  • You are advised to submit the original paper copy of this letter when making your application for a Standard Visitor visa
