About me

Hi! My name is Jessica, and I used to be a student at the LSE, too! As a pianist who is interested in social change, I embarked my doctoral journey in Media and Communications, exploring the relationship between sound, affect, meaning, rationality and emotion in collective identity formation, as in feminist protests in London.

I obtained my PhD in 2021 from LSE, and this research experience was inspiring to me in so many ways, particularly from a personal growth perspective. I realised studying isn't only about the certificate and my original job prospect (which could also be important!), but also the person I have become, the way that I see the world, and what I deem is valuable responding to the literature, the society, and my everyday life. Based on my experience, I would love to share what I have learnt in this journey – all the ups and downs as well as my reflection with students at LSE LIFE.

Before I started the position of Study Adviser, I was a seminar teacher of a variety of courses within LSE, such as Social Psychology, Global Politics of Protest and Change, Mediated Activism and Dissertation Study Skills in Communication, to name a few. In 2019-2020, I was highly commended for the LSE Class Teacher Award. Besides, I am an Associate Fellow of AdvanceHE and a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Media and Communications.

Since 2022, additional to my day role as Study Adviser, I also become the Warden of one of the LSE Halls - LSE Passfield Hall. It allows me to understand LSE students' life in a multi-dimensional lens - that the studying journey of a person is never separated from wellness and the quality of everyday life interaction and experience.

Throughout the years, my passion in Higher Education has shifted from academic pursue, to pastoral care and student's personal and professional development. If you would like to speak with me more about your learning journey at LSE, please do feel free to get in touch!

Outside the academic setting, I am an active pianist who delivers concerts in care homes, hospitals and various community settings. My favourite music composers include Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, Elgar (and many more!)
