Expand your skills

Your time at LSE isn’t just about academics and getting a degree. It is also about starting to explore what it is that you want to do after graduation and developing the skills and experiences you will need to succeed in it. Think creatively about your goals and priorities and don’t hesitate to consider projects outside your own discipline as well.

Whether through taking part in Leadership programmes such as Laidlaw or Beecken Faith and Leadership, acquiring more digital skills with the DSL or gaining practical experience through getting active in LSESU Societies or Student Media: You are spoilt for choice to grow and learn through extracurricular activities. Unsure how to get started? Do not hesitate to reach out to an adviser at LSE LIFE or LSE Careers.

Think about how you grow

  • What can you do now that you couldn't a year ago, and how did that happen?
  • When you want to learn something, what's your route — a course, a project, a person, trial and error?
  • Which skill do you keep wishing you had but never start on? What's the real reason?
  • What would you try if you weren't worried about being a beginner at it?

Reflect on what you've done

  • What's one thing you've taken on at LSE that had nothing to do with your degree? What did it give you?
  • When did you last surprise yourself with something you turned out to be good at?
  • Is there an opportunity you talked yourself out of? What would you do differently next time?
