Reach Out Research

The project was very interesting for me to pursue, especially since I felt like this kind of research had an impact on the society and a contribution to our knowledge to serve humanity

The collaboration has been invaluable to my dissertation. I would definitely recommend it especially if you are unable to carry out fieldwork but would still like to have an extra source of information for your dissertation.

What is Reach Out Research?

This project is no longer running.

Reach Out Research was a project that connects MSc students that want to conduct their research in the non-profit sector with non-profit organisations who are looking for research to be carried out.

While housed in LSE LIFE, Reach Out Research’s project board consisted of members from LSE LIFE, LSE Volunteer Centre, academic departments, and the Student Union.

Why should you choose to be a part of Reach Out Research?

If you are interested in conducting research with a non-profit organisation, but do not have connections to any, Reach Out Research may help with this. We facilitate your access to the organisation that you may potentially need to carry out your research.

Reach Out Research strives to better society by connecting MSc students with organisations in the non-profit sector. Our intention is to create partnerships that lead to meaningful research that is relevant and valuable to these organisations, while MSc students create original research as part of a unique case. We ensure high quality impactful research that both benefits the organisations and meets the MSc dissertation requirements at LSE.

Reach Out Research is built on the idea that dissertation research at master's level can act as a benefit to society. Therefore, we aim to encourage inquiry and research that aids organisations that work towards social and economic justice and environmental sustainability.

How does Reach Out Research work?

Organisations place opportunities on our site on CareerHub for areas of research that they would like to have conducted. You can apply for these opportunities through CareerHub – there are no limits to how many opportunities you can apply for. If your research questions and proposals are of interest to the non-profit organisation, we connect you to the key contact at the organisation there.

Reach Out Research does monitor student applications to verify that they match the organisational needs, and will return applications to students with advice for improvement should we deem it necessary.
