LSE100 Award Winners Reception 2023

This year's LSE100 Awards Reception took place on Tuesday 10 October 2023! The LSE100 team were joined by students and staff from across the School in celebrating the award winners from the 2022-23 first-year undergraduate cohort. Cheering over drinks and canapés on the 8th Floor of the Cheng Kin Ku Building, we celebrated as students received their awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement and the Sir Robert Worcester Prize for Exceptional Academic Performance on LSE100.

We were delighted to welcome Professor Emma McCoy (Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education), who delivered a warm opening address to this year's award winners. Over the course of her opening remarks, and drawing from personal experience, Professor McCoy emphasised the way in which students' appreciation of LSE100 and the skills developed through their time on the course continues to grow across their time at LSE and their professional lives. As such, Professor McCoy encouraged our award winners to reflect upon, develop and celebrate their interdisciplinary aptitudes well into the future.

Dr. Chris Blunt and Dr. Jillian Terry, Associate Professors (Education) and LSE100 Co-Directors, awarded the prizes throughout the evening, starting with the winners of the award for Outstanding Academic Achievement on LSE100. This prize is awarded to groups who were nominated by their teacher, in recognition of their LSE100 group research project's demonstration of these students' commitment to interdisciplinary investigation, effective collaboration and engaging communication skills.

These students represent the top 9 out of 400 groups who completed group research projects during their time on LSE100 2022-23.

Ahead of each group being awarded their prize, words from their nominating LSE100 seminar teacher were shared with the reception audience and further demonstrated how groups from across all three course themes are committed to innovative, interdisciplinary research. In addition to the words shared by Dr. Blunt and Dr. Terry, LSE100 Fellows Dr. Dave Ashby, Dr. Daniel Frost, Dr. Nina Vindum Rasmussen and Dr. Emma Taylor all shared insightful and warm speeches about their respective groups and the students' excellent work.

After this, Dr. Blunt and Dr. Terry awarded the prestigious Sir Robert Worcester Prize for Exceptional Academic Performance on LSE100 to Yestin Davies (Law School) and Sakina Nakhoda (Department of Geography and Environment). Established following a generous gift from Sir Robert Worcester, Emeritus Governor of the School and founding member of the LSE100 Steering Committee, the Worcester prize is awarded to the student - or students - who receive the highest overall mark on LSE100 each year.

We were delighted to be joined by students and staff from across the School in celebration of the 45 LSE100 award winners from 15 different Departments. Our attendees included Dr. Claudine Provencher (Director of Student Learning and Personal Development), Dr. Claire Gordon (Director of the Eden Centre) and Dr. Paulette Annon (Department of Management).
