Cases for promotion to Research Officer can be submitted at any time.

From 1 September 2026, cases for promotion to Research Fellow will be considered by the Research Fellow and Policy Staff Promotions Panel. The Panel will meet once a term to consider cases for promotion.

In 2026/27, cases for promotion to Research Fellow will be subject to the following submission and review schedule:

Candidates for promotion to Research Officer or Research Fellow are now also able to submit Optional Declarations of Individual Circumstances as part of their case. The relevant guidance is here, and the relevant form can be downloaded here.
