LSE is committed to creating a learning environment in which students and staff can participate freely and confidently in lectures, classes, seminars and other teaching activities.
Lectures, seminars, classes and other teaching sessions often involve spontaneous contributions, debate and the exploration of ideas. For many members of our community, knowing that discussions may be covertly recorded and stored through wearable technologies such as smart glasses could inhibit participation and undermine the atmosphere of trust upon which effective teaching depends.
Students must not use smart glasses or other wearable devices to make audio or video recordings of teaching sessions, whether openly or covertly, unless they have received explicit permission in advance from the teacher and, where appropriate, from other participants.
This requirement applies regardless of whether the recording is intended for personal study, sharing with others or use in conjunction with artificial intelligence systems or other technologies.
The School recognises that some students may have approved disability-related adjustments that involve recording teaching sessions through specified technology. Those arrangements will continue to operate through the normal channels and are unaffected by this guidance.
Students should be aware that the unauthorised recording, retention or sharing of teaching activities may adversely affect the privacy, dignity and legitimate expectations of other members of the School community. Such conduct may also be inconsistent with the standards of behaviour expected of LSE students, including the principles set out in the School's Ethics Code and other relevant regulations and policies.
Unauthorised recording will be treated as a breach of your Conditions of Registration and Enrolment and will be handled under the School’s Disciplinary Procedure for Students.
