Discover | Law and legal services is our careers programme for LSE students and recent graduates interested in working in law. 

As well as year-long support through resources and opportunities, Discover | Law and legal services includes a series of careers events where you can hear from and network with law firms who are especially keen to meet with LSE students. Across these events, you can attend sector-specific skills development sessions, a recruitment and networking session with a variety of law firms, as well as alumni events.

What's on: Browse the full timetable of events for LSE students

Held over two weeks during Autumn Term, Discover | Law and Legal Services offers valuable opportunities to attend sector-focused skills workshops, recruitment and networking events featuring a various law firms, and discussions with alumni currently working in diverse legal careers. Browse what's on below:

  • Law recruitment and networking fair: Connect with a wide range of law and legal services employers at our flagship recruitment and networking event. Previous firms have included Herbert Smith Freehills, Kirkland & Ellis, White & Case, Covington, Clyde & Co, Hogan Lovells, and Latham & Watkins.

  • Careers in law alumni panel: Hear from LSE alumni working in law as they share their career journeys, insights on gaining work experience, and tips for job applications. There’s also a chance to network with them after the discussion.

  • Skills seminars: Build essential legal skills through interactive workshops led by top employers. Previous sessions have covered commercial awareness (hosted by Hogan Lovells) and negotiation skills (led by BlackRock).

  • Employer presentations: Gain in-depth insights into key legal topics through talks from leading law firms. Past sessions have included ‘The Role of a Corporate Lawyer in a VC Transaction’ with Marriott Harrison and ‘Inside the Headlines’ with Herbert Smith Freehills.

  • Meet an Alum: Working as a barrister: Thinking about a career at the Bar? This small-group session is a chance to hear from barristers about their profession, ask questions, and get tailored careers advice. 

  • Application advice: Understanding the legal qualification process is important. Our workshop on crafting strong legal applications, alongside a presentation from the University of Law on the SQE1 & SQE2, will help you navigate your next steps with confidence.

There are a number of events taking place externally and a range of digital resources you can access which will allow you to network and engage with different firms and deepen your understanding of the law and legal services sector.

  • Legal Cheek virtual law fairs: A range of virtual fairs during the autumn.
  • All About Law: Virtual law fair and a range of other resources.
  • LawCareers.net: Hosts a number of events to support you with connecting with law firms, exploring skills, attributes and techniques that are necessary to launch a career at a law firm.  In depth information on getting into law.
  • Bar Council – Pupillage Fair: Designed in partnership with the Inns of Court and Specialist Bar Associations, The Bar Council’s Pupillage Fair is the largest recruitment event for students and graduates aspiring to join the Bar of England and Wales. You can also find out about the barrister pathway on their site.
  • targetjobs Law hub: Legal sector advice and resources on how to become a solicitor or barrister, as well as the work experience, skills and qualities that will make you a success.
  • Prospects – how to become a lawyer: An excellent resource with information covering career pathways, work experience, qualification routes, and more.
