Postponing your Ceremony

If you can't make your graduation ceremony, you can request to postpone it until the next available opportunity

aldwych london students walking awayWe realise that in some cases you may not be able to make your graduation ceremony so you are able to postpone your ceremony by one year.

Please note, it is now too late to request a postponement for the 2022 Summer and Winter Graduation Ceremonies. Postponements are not available for the Rescheduled July 2023 Ceremonies.

When can I postpone my ceremony to?

Normally, if you are due to attend a ceremony in July you can postpone to the following July. This is to ensure that you attend a ceremony where your programme is represented.

Normally, if you are due to attend a ceremony in December you can postpone to the following December. This is to ensure that you attend a ceremony where your programme is represented.

However, if you are a PhD student or taking the Executive LLM you can postpone to the following July or December because these programmes are represented at both sets of ceremonies.

In some instances, if we receive more postponement requests than can be accommodated in the next appropriate ceremony, we will operate a waiting list, whereby we log the postponement request, add graduands to the waiting list, and invite them to a future ceremony.

You can only postpone your ceremony once.

Brochure and merchandise listing

Your name will only be printed on the merchandise and brochure lists on the actual year you graduated and will not be included on the lists of the next ceremony you attend.

Degree certificates

Certificates are issued in the year you successfully completed your programme, so the issuing of your certificate will not be delayed should you request to postpone ceremonies.

How to request a postponement

Students can only request a postponement once they have received a graduation invitation.

The ceremony postponement form is only applicable to the July 2023 graduating cohort - those being awarded and graduating this summer (not rescheduled ceremonies).

Any postponement requests received from students that originally graduated in 2022, 2021, 2020, or earlier, will not be accepted/processed.

You can request a postponement by filling in the form below:
