Short Term Study Letters can ONLY be requested by LSE students who are:

  • unregistered and required to return to the UK to undertake assessment(s) in May 2020
  • unregistered and required to return to the UK to undertake assessment(s) in IRDAP 2020
  • attending LSE for no longer than 6 months.

When to request a letter?

  • If you require a Short-Term study visa to return to the UK in May 2020, please request your letter on or after Tuesday 4 February 2020.
  • If you require a Short Term study visa to return to the UK in IRDAP 2020, please request your letter on or after Monday 4 May 2020.
  • If you make your request during an LSE closure period it will take us longer to process it.

Offer Holders, Summer School and Double Degree students

  • Offer holders cannot request Short-Term study letters. Instead you should contact either Graduate or Undergraduate Admissions with any CAS queries.
  • Summer School students cannot use this process. Instead please use the Summer School process.
  • Double Degree students, should follow the instructions given by their programme administrators.

Can I extend my visa once I am back in the UK?

If you enter the UK with a Short-Term Study Visa you will not have the option to extend this visa within the UK.

If you will require additional time to complete your studies you will have to return to your home country and submit a request for a CAS to enable you to apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa from outside the UK.

A Short Term Student Visa may not be suitable for non-final year students returning to the UK to re-sit examinations.

Full details on the difference between entering the UK with a student visitor instead of a Tier 4 student visa are available from the International Student Visa Advice Team.
