The Sustainability Team offers a wide range of opportunities to help students and staff develop their knowledge, build practical skills, and make a meaningful contribution to our sustainability ambitions.
Whether you're looking to deepen your understanding through training, gain hands-on experience by volunteering, or get involved in initiatives that create positive environmental and social impact, there's something for everyone.

Sign up for a Carbon Literacy Course
Carbon literacy training is an accredited programme that teaches people about the carbon footprint of everyday activities. It gives people the knowledge and motivation to lower greenhouse gas emissions in their local communities.
Get funding for a sustainability project
The Sustainable Projects Fund provides up to £20,000 to support projects that enhance sustainability across the LSE campus. Applications open once a year, with the funding process involving the submission of a project proposal followed by a short presentation.
Join the Student Climate Forum
The Student Climate Forum happens on a termly basis and provides students an opportunity to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and build a student community that helps to drive positive environmental change across the University.
Volunteer with the sustainability team
Depending on your availability, you can volunteer on a one-off basis and be notified when opportunities arise, or take on a term-time content creator role. In this role, you'll help shape the sustainability social media channels and receive a career reference at the end of the year.
Get involved in a Green Impact team
Green Impact is LSE's sustainability engagement programme for staff. Teams complete actions from a digital toolkit; there's various actions that award you points on a scale from 2-8, from organising a book swap to hosting a hedgehog awareness week event and you can even make up your own!
Become a student sustainability auditor
As a sustainability auditor, you’ll have the opportunity to audit staff teams on their sustainability engagement throughout the year as part of Green Impact. You will receive accredited training from SOS-UK, this is great experience for anyone looking to get in the sector.
Take part in the LSE Waste Smart Initative
The LSE Waste Smart Initiative is a series of opportunities that promote and educate on sustainable consumption and waste reduction across the School, including litter picking, recycling centre visits, a waste hackathon, student waste audits, and student waste ambassadors.
Visit the LSE urban beehives
Hear from our resident beekeeper and learn more about biodiversity and the bees we care for on the rooftop of Connaught House. We hold termly bee visits and provide beekeeping suits when you come along.
Be part of the LSE Cycling Community
Join the Bicycle User Group Teams channel where you can share concerns, useful tips, news etc. We also hold termly Dr Bike sessions where you can have your bike looked at for free by a mechanic, learn about bike safety from local officers and receive free crime prevention materials.
