When will I take my deferred assessment?

When you take an assessment following a deferral depends on a number of factors.

If you successfully request to defer an assessment then you will be expected to take the assessment at the next appropriate opportunity. It is important to note that this does not always mean the next time the assessment runs.

Expand the sections below to find out when you will take your deferred assessment.

Undergraduate students

If you are deferring from the academic year

If you defer an assessment that you were due to submit during the academic year then you will instead be expected to take that assessment during the In-Year Resit and Deferral Period (IRDAP) in August.

January Exams will be deferred to IRDAP in August. May/June Exams will be deferred to IRDAP in August. Coursework and other assessments will be deferred to a similar time - please contact the department teaching the course for specific deadlines.

If you are deferring from the In-Year Resit and Deferral Period (IRDAP)

If you defer an assessment that you were due to submit during the In-Year Resit and Deferral Period (IRDAP) then you will instead be expected to take that assessment when it normally runs during the following academic year.

If it is an exam which normally takes place in January then you will take it in January. If it is an exam which normally takes place during May/June then you will take it during May/June. Coursework and other assessments will need to be submitted at the same time as students who are having teaching on that course - please contact the department teaching the course for specific deadlines.

If you have repeat teaching

If you successfully apply for repeat teaching then your assessments will be automatically deferred to the academic year when you are due to have your repeat teaching (i.e. you will not be expected to take assessments for the courses where you have repeat teaching during IRDAP). For more information please visit Repeat Teaching.

General Course and GO LSE students

Typically, General Course and GO LSE students follow the undergraduate pattern laid out above. However this is not always the case so please seek specific advice from the Dean of the General Course and Global Mobility.

Diploma Students

Diploma students are expected to take deferred assessments according to the level of the course in which they deferred their assessment.
