What to bring to Campus Enrolment

official documents that will be checked

Information on what to bring to Campus Enrolment for taught students starting a new programme at LSE

We cannot accept electronic or hard copies of passports at Campus Enromlent. You must bring your original passport.

When you campus enrol we need to check that you have valid permission to study at LSE.  If you are campus enrolling on a taught (non-executive) programme you must bring your pre-enrolment pass AND the documents listed below.

Please remember that you will not be able to campus enrol unless you bring all the required in-date original documents with you to Campus Enrolment.

Students from the UK

  • Valid in-date original UK passport

A driving license does not verify nationality and is therefore not sufficient for Campus Enrolment purposes.

Students from Ireland

Irish Citizens should bring an in-date Irish passport to Campus Enrolment. It is essential to present this document to complete your Campus Enrolment.

A driving license does not verify nationality and is therefore not sufficient for Campus Enrolment purposes.

Students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland with a status under the EU Settlement Scheme

EU/EEA and Swiss nationals and their dependents may hold one of the following statuses on the EU Settlement Scheme: pre-settled status, settled status, or family member

  • Valid-in date original passport
  • Your share code to verify your eVisa/digital status
  • Evidence of when your status was first granted - this is because eVisas/digital statuses do not include expiry dates so this will need to be calculated at enrolment based on when your status was granted. This can be the decision letter/email from the UKVI.

If you require a Student visa to join LSE, you must apply for and obtain this before Campus Enrolment. If you enter the UK as a tourist without having applied for your visa/with your visa application still in progress, you will not be able to enrol or attend teaching until your visa is in place. Contact the Student Advice and Engagement Team for advice if you have any concerns.

Executive Masters Students with Standard Visitor visas

  • Valid in-date original passport
  • Evidence of your date of entry if you are able to enter the country using the eGates or hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation

If you are an eGate national and you have used an eGate to scan your passport at the UK border, you will need to bring evidence to Campus Enrolment of the date you arrived in the UK (e.g. a boarding pass, a train/flight ticket, or a flight itinerary). This could be on paper or digital.

Student visas

  • Valid in-date original passport
  • Your share code to verify your eVisa/digital status
  • Evidence of the date you arrived in the UK (e.g., a passport stamp, boarding pass, a train/flight ticket, or a flight itinerary). This could be on paper or digital.

If you require a student visa to join LSE, you must apply for and obtain this before Campus Enrolment.

If you have just completed a previous programme at LSE, you can enrol temporarily for your new programme using the visa you hold for your previous programme, but you must apply to extend your stay in the UK within 6 weeks of campus enrolling for your new programme or before the end date of your current visa, whichever is sooner, and bring us evidence of your new application.

YOU CANNOT ENROL ON A VISA FROM ANOTHER INSTITUTION UNLESS YOU HAVE A VISA APPLICATION IN PROGRESS, OR ARE AN INTERCOLLEGIATE OR INTERCALATING STUDENT

Additional information for EU/EEA Nationals and students who enter the UK via the e-Gates:

The following nationalities are usually able to use the e-Gates at the UK border:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • USA
  • EU/EEA and Swiss Nationals

If you enter the UK when your Student visa is valid, then your visa will be activated simply by going through the e-Gates or speaking to a Border Force Officer.

If you enter the UK without a Student visa in place, you will be entering the UK as a tourist and will not be able to enrol or attend teaching until your visa is in place. Contact the Student Advice and Engagement Team for advice if you have any concerns.

If you enter the UK before the start date of your Student visa, you will be entering the UK as a tourist and you will be unable to campus enrol for your programme. You will need to leave and re-enter the UK on your Student visa after its start date in order to activate it. It is not possible to automatically switch from being a visitor to a Student visa without leaving the UK. You do not need to travel home to do this, you can travel to Europe (but not the Republic of Ireland). However, you must re-enter the UK when your Student visa is vaild.

Students with a Student visa application in process - IN THE UK ONLY

If you require a Student visa to join LSE, you must apply for and obtain this before Campus Enrolment. If you enter the UK as a tourist without having applied for your visa/with your visa application still in progress overseas, you will not be able to enrol or attend teaching until your visa is in place. Contact the Student Advice and Engagement Team for advice if you have any concerns.

  • Valid in-date original passport
  • Your previous visa - you will not be able to enrol if your previous visa is a tourist, High Potential Individual, or Graduate Route visa
  • Printed evidence that you have made an application for a Student visa sponsored by LSE. You can do this by providing a copy of your online application document confirming the visa category you have applied for, payment has been made, and the date the application was submitted or a printed copy of the email confirming your Student visa has been granted. We cannot accept evidence shown to us on a phone. You should print this in advance to avoid delaying your campus enrolment.

IMPORTANT POINTS:

  • You will not be able to enrol if your previous visa was the Graduate Route, High Potential Individual or Standard Visitor and you are awaiting the outcome of a Student visa application in the UK because of the immigration rules.
  • You will not be able to enrol if your Student visa application is in progress overseas and you have travelled to the UK before you have received your decision from the UKVI.
  • In both of these circumstances, please seek advice in advance so as not to delay your ability to join your programme.

If you have previously studied in the UK on a Student visa at another institution and plan to extend your visa in the UK, you will need to provide evidence that you have applied for your visa using your LSE CAS before you will be permitted to campus enrol. We suggest printing a copy of your visa application evidencing the date you applied and that you used the LSE CAS.
