In exceptional circumstances students are allowed to take courses offered at other University of London colleges.

To register for a course outside of LSE, students must:

Complete the Request to Take a Course Outside LSE Form (PDF)
You will need to obtain your department’s approval, as indicated on the form.
If you have not yet selected courses on LSE for You, please specify under which paper you wish to take the intercollegiate course when submitting this form.

Complete the registration form for the outside college
Ensure you obtain the necessary approval as indicated on their form.

*For students taking PhD courses at LBS, please complete the LBS online application form and submit only the LSE form to Student Services

Submit both forms to the Student Services Centre
Use this enquiry form and select Student Records Team. We will sign and return the outside college’s form to you, which you must then submit directly to the outside college.

Course selection on LSE for You
Within 5–10 working days of approval, the outside course will appear on your course selection list on LSE for You.

Important Notes

Course Selection Period: During the course selection period, please select all your courses as normal on LSE for You. If your application to take an intercollegiate course is approved, we will update your record by removing the original course and adding the intercollegiate course.
Deadlines: Please ensure that you meet the registration deadlines set by the host institution. Late applications may be rejected.
Results Processing: Assessment and results processing timeframes vary between institutions. Marks for intercollegiate courses may be exchanged at different times to those for LSE courses. For final-year students, these differences in timing may affect our ability to award your degree and, subsequently, your eligibility for graduation.

Marks for intercollegiate courses are provided to LSE by the host institution and remain under that institution's academic and administrative processes until they are formally released to us. If the host institution experiences delays to marking, assessment boards, industrial action, or other administrative processes, LSE is unable to expedite the release or amendment of marks on a student's behalf. Students will need to wait until the host institution provides or confirms the results before updates to their record or award can be made.
If you have exam/assessment adjustments and are taking an intercollegiate module at another institution, please contact their disability service for adjustments.
The completed forms should be returned to the Student Services Centre no later than 09 October 2026 for Autumn Term courses and 22 January 2027 for half unit Winter Term courses.
