Insights from the Student Education Panel

The Student Education Panel meet termly to discuss different aspects of their educational experiences at LSE, and identify opportunities for enhancement.

2023-24

Transitions in Higher Education (Autumn Term 2023)

The first Autumn Term meeting of the Student Education Panel consisted of:

  • Individual reflections on transitions panellists have experienced during their LSE experience so far (review the Padlet)
  • Small group discussions to develop a common understanding of what we mean by the term 'transitions' in Higher Education
  • An timeline mapping activity to explore what, where, when, how and why students are experiencing transitional moments at LSE.

After the meeting, 8 volunteers from the panel met to conduct a thematic content analysis of meeting outputs and generated a summary of key meeting themes.

Generative AI & Education (Autumn Term 2023)

The second Autumn Term meeting of the Student Education Panel consisted of:

  • An introduction to how LSE is currently thinking about the role of Generative AI in education
  • Individual reflections on the ways in which students are using generative AI in their education and wider lives (review the Padlet)
  • Small group discussions about the benefits and drawbacks of these uses of generative AI
  • Suggestions for LSE when thinking about generative AI in the future

After the meeting, 8 volunteers from the panel met to identify the key themes from the meeting discussions and generated a summary of key meeting themes which was presented to the AI and Education Working Group and at the Winter Term Education Forum.

Student Voice in Education (Winter Term 2024)

The first Winter Term meeting of the Student Education Panel consisted of:

  • Individual reflections on how panellists currently use their voices at LSE (review the Padlet)
  • Whole group discussion about why student voice is an important aspect of education
  • A world cafe activity looking at how panellists have experienced different conceptualisations of student voice at LSE

After the meeting, 8 volunteers from the panel met to identify the key themes from the main meeting discussions and author a summary to be shared with the wider LSE community.

  • Individual reflections about what panellists aspire to do post-LSE, and the skills they think they'll need to get there (review the Padlet)
  • Whole group activity to map what skills students are developing as part of their education and wider student experience, and where they are developing them
  • Reflections on how students can identify, articulate and demonstrate the skills they are developing as part of their education

After the meeting, 4 volunteers from the panel met to identify the key themes from the main meeting discussions and author a summary to be shared with the wider LSE community.

Community in Education (Winter Term 2024)

The final Winter Term meeting of the Student Education Panel consisted of:

  • Individual reflections on where panellists currently feel like they belong at LSE (review the Padlet)
  • Small and whole group discussions about the physical, social and economic barriers that prevent students from engaging in their classrooms, departments of wider LSE communities
  • A world building exercise to identify potential ways to overcome these barriers in the future

After the meeting,6 volunteers from the panel met to identify the key themes from the main meeting discussions and author a summary to be shared with the wider LSE community.
