Who can enrol?

This page provides essential information for students currently registered on a degree programme at other University of London colleges who wish to take specific LSE courses as part of their home institution degree. This process is known as intercollegiate study at LSE. Follow the guidance below to check your eligibility, apply for LSE courses, and complete the LSE enrolment process.

(Note: This page is specifically for University of London intercollegiate arrangements. It does not apply to general visiting students or study abroad programmes).

Eligibility for LSE Intercollegiate Study

To study at LSE as an intercollegiate student, you must meet all the following conditions:

  • Be currently registered on a degree programme at another University of London college.
  • Confirm that the LSE course(s) you wish to take will form an approved part of your degree programme at your home institution.
  • Receive approval from the relevant LSE academic department or course convenor responsible for the course(s) you wish to study at LSE.
  • Receive approval from your home institution's academic department to take the LSE course(s).
  • Obtain formal permission from the appropriate authority (e.g., Registry) at your home college to attend the LSE course(s). Your home college must also agree to pay the required LSE intercollegiate tuition fee.

Advanced Economics (EC) Courses (Year 2 or Year 3)

For students wishing to take an advanced (Year 2 or Year 3) Economics (EC) course at LSE: In addition to securing permission and financial agreement from your own institution, LSE requires that the lecturers responsible for the EC course agree that you are eligible. For these higher-level economics courses, lecturers will need to check whether you have met any listed pre-requisites and have the ability and motivation to complete the course successfully. Before submitting the intercollegiate application form, you must compile the necessary information for this assessment and email it to the Undergraduate Tutor, Dr Judith Shapiro (j.c.shapiro@lse.ac.uk).

Law (LL) Courses

For students wishing to take any Law (LL) courses, you must first obtain approval directly from the LSE Law Department. This must be done before you submit your main intercollegiate application. To begin the approval process, please email the Law Department at law.llb@lse.ac.uk. Please be aware that this approval process can take significantly longer than for other departments, so contact them well in advance.
