Our new Departmental Senior Student Advisers are here to support you during your time at LSE, helping you to navigate (alongside your Academic Mentor and other departmental colleagues) the advice and support services available to you, and to assist with your wellbeing needs.
Up to 30 mins appointments are available in-person and online for several departments - see below for your adviser's details and availability. If your home department is not listed, support will be offered in a different way - talk to your Academic Mentor or check your home department's web pages for further information.
If you need urgent mental health support, please visit our webpages.
What the team does:
- Provide a supportive ear within your department
- Advise on aspects of university life that you're unsure about - whether that's assessments, regulations, or finding the right kind of support
- Help with issues that are impacting your ability to get the most from your LSE experience
We can't support you with:
- Specialist visa advice - if you need any advice regarding your visa, please contact the Student Advice and Engagement Team
- Course selection advice - if you need any advice about course selection, please contact your Academic Mentor and other departmental colleagues
- Academic progression and feedback - please contact your Academic Mentor and other departmental colleagues

Information for staff
The new Departmental Senior Student Advisers are a point of contact to all undergraduate and postgraduate taught students based in the Department, offering professional and pastoral help and guidance if they are experiencing challenges or need support. This includes regular office hours and drop-ins, and complements the work of Academic Mentors, Department Tutors/Programme Directors and Programmes Team.
Please signpost students to their adviser via this webpage – they can complete a booking form and their adviser will contact them to arrange an appointment, or attend a drop-in for quick queries. You can also refer a student by emailing ssc.dssa@lse.ac.uk and they’ll be contacted directly. To ensure the referral process is as smooth as possible follow this guidance:
- Use the subject title ‘Student referral (name of dept)’
- In the body of the email, provide the students name, Id number and the reason you are referring them (include as much detail as possible)
- Please also confirm that the student knows you’re referring them to the adviser
