Peer Supporters Scheme: apply to become a Peer Supporter

Peer Supporters are trained student volunteers who can offer support, give a fresh perspective and listen to whatever is troubling students, from academic stresses to relationships. The scheme is open to applications from undergraduates and MRes/PhD students and two-year master’s students.

Student Volunteering Ambassador Programme: apply to be a Student Volunteering Ambassador

The programme aims to inspire LSE students to volunteer. Student Ambassadors share their stories with fellow students as well as work together with a group of like-minded students on ways to promote the benefits of volunteering on campus. Application details can be found on LSE CareerHub.

#SustainableLSE Halls Campaign: volunteer as a Sustainability Ambassador

All LSE managed halls of residence take part in our #SustainableLSE halls campaign which aims to reduce energy and water consumption, and to improve recycling rates. Students can sign up to become Sustainability Ambassadors, with the chance to make a real improvement and win prizes for their halls.

Academic Representation: get involved in student voting

Academic Representatives are a crucial part of the LSESU. More than 400 Academic Representatives are elected by their student peers to represent them during the academic year and to liaise with LSE departmental staff in the Staff-Student Liaison Committees.

Beecken Faith and Leadership Programme: apply for the programme

This programme will deepen your understanding of religions and develop leadership skills. There are three modules across Michaelmas and Lent Terms. The modules are: Religious Imaginations in Today's World; Faith Based Climate Action; and Conflict Transformation.

Campaigns: find out about campaigning at LSE

Campaigning at LSESU is the way to make students' voices heard on campus. Campaigners collaborate with the LSESU to change policy at LSE by building a movement that has democratic legitimacy. The LSESU provides expert advice, resources and training.

Change Makers: apply to the Change Maker programme

The programme involves student researchers identifying a particular aspect of LSE to investigate. The students then plan and carry out a small-scale research project with funding and support from LSE. At the end of the project, Change Makers present their findings to LSE senior leadership.

Community Engagement Programme: apply for the programme

The Community Engagement Programme empowers students to make a difference in the communities we are part of through a consultancy challenge in which teams work together to tackle issues which charities are facing. This programme is open to all current students at LSE.

Consent.Ed: take the consent course

Consent.Ed is an educational programme and was launched to tackle sexual violence. The sessions are facilitated by students and explore issues around consent. All students (with exceptions) are expected to complete the online course. Students are welcome to attend an in-person Consent.Ed session.

Creative Network X LSESU: get involved in creativity

The Creative Network is a student-led committee striving to celebrate arts on campus, foster collaboration between creative individuals and societies, and build an inclusive community of inspiring minds at LSE.

Democracy Committee: find out about the LSESU democratic system

The committee decides the dates of elections and referenda; chairs the Student Town Halls; decides which motions will go forward to Student Panels; and acts as the main point of contact for students who have questions about how to get involved with the democratic system.

The LSESU Elections are one of the most important dates on the LSESU calendar. This is an opportunity to nominate yourself to represent others or vote for your favourite candidate. Have your say on how your Students’ Union is run and create change at LSE.

Environmental Hub is the place to keep up with the latest news about environmental activism on campus. Joining a society or environmental campaign is a great way to engage with a network of environmentally like-minded people. Find out about LSE societies that are focused on environmental issues.

Green Impact: get involved with the Green Impact team

Green Impact is a sustainability engagement programme available to staff and student teams across LSE. Each academic year, teams collectively undertake hundreds of actions that cumulatively enhance the environmental impacts of the School.

Hall Committees: nominate yourself for election or vote

Hall committees are a group of residents with the aim to develop a good sense of community and a respectful environment in the hall. The committees are either selected by the warden (postgraduate halls) or elected by residents (undergraduate halls). They get to spend the committee budget.

Hedgehog Friendly Campus: get involved with supporting hedgehogs

LSE joined the Hedgehog Friendly Campus programme in 2021, gaining the Bronze Award. The accreditation is about raising awareness of the plight of hedgehogs whilst taking steps to improve their circumstances across campus and at home.

As part of LSE work on higher education identities, the Eden Centre has recently carried out a research project exploring how student identities affect their experiences of LSE. The research looks to understand how institutional structures, discourses and cultures produce disparate experience

The LSE Language Centre hosts opportunities to volunteer, exchange and practise languages outside of the more formal programmes of study. Tandem learning; conversation circles and improvisation sessions are offered and the Language Gateway also hosts online resources and skills for independent study

LSE Students’ Union (LSESU) Raising and Giving (RAG): find out about fundraising

RAG is the charitable and fundraising arm of the LSESU. One of the largest student bodies on campus, RAG facilitates and supports student fundraising on and off campus, as well as running a programme of events to support its chosen charities. Stay up-to-date with RAG by visiting their website.

LSE Team Up Maths Tutor: apply to be a Tutor

The LSE Team Up Maths Tutor role is an opportunity for undergraduate LSE students to gain experience working with Year 10 and 11 students in an educational setting. With training and ongoing guidance and support, tutors will travel to one of our London partner schools to provide small group tutoring

Off Campus Support Scheme: apply to become an Off Campus Mentor

The scheme recognises that students living off campus experience a different set of challenges to those living in LSE halls of residence. It connects new first year undergraduate and Study Abroad students who are living off campus with an experienced volunteer undergraduate student mentor.

One-Off Volunteering Opportunities: get involved with one-off volunteering

One-off opportunities allow students to try volunteering or experience volunteering if they have other commitments. They take place online, on campus or off campus. Opportunities take up a maximum of one day, with no further commitment.

Public Engagement (LSE Library): get involved in projects and events

LSE Library offers students the opportunity to get involved in Library research and/or community projects. LSE Library offers a range of exhibitions, events and workshops. Students can also visit our exhibitions that are open to the public.

Religion and Global Society: find information on religion-related social science research

The Religion and Global Society is an interdisciplinary unit conducting and promoting religion-related social science research. The unit is in partnership with the LSE Faith Centre and the Anthropology, International Relations, and Methodology Departments.

ReLove: donate unwanted items

ReLove is a reuse programme designed to give a home to unwanted items (books, crockery, clothes etc). Items are donated by students moving out of halls at the end of the academic year. Every year around eight to nine tonnes of unwanted items are donated, most to the British Heart Foundation.

Student Academic Mentor (SAM) Programme: apply to become or find a Student Academic Mentor

SAM is a peer-to-peer mentoring programme for undergraduate students, delivered in collaboration with academic departments. The aim is for second- and third-year undergraduate mentors to help new students to make the most of LSE, access the right support resources and settle into life at LSE.

Student Education Panel: apply to be on the Student Education Panel

The Student Education Panel engages students of all backgrounds in the development of education at LSE. Fifty Student Education panellists meet at least once per term to draw on their own experiences and ideas to discuss a specific education-related topic, question or proposal.

Student Media: get involved in student publications, TV and radio

The LSESU media groups are entirely student-led and there are many ways to get involved – whether it's through an editorial role, anchoring your own TV production or putting together a radio show. Options include: The Beaver; Pulse Radio; Loose TV; and Clare Market Review.

Student Representatives: apply for paid and voluntary positions

LSESU offers students the opportunity to become or elect five sabbatical officers (paid) and eleven part-time (voluntary) officers that champion the needs of students at LSE. These officers will lead LSESU and campaign for student rights, amongst other duties.

Student Town Halls: attend monthly student meetings

Student Town Halls are one of the main ways in which students can democratically engage and create change within their Students' Union and LSE. Held monthly, and open to all students, these meetings are a way to keep up-to-date and debate policies that shape LSESU’s campaigns.

Submit a Motion for Change: get involved in change

A Student Members' Meeting motion is a document proposing a change to the Union's policy. Motions can be submitted on anything ranging from decisions taken by LSE or LSESU, to wider national or even international concerns. Any member of the LSESU can submit a motion.

Summer Volunteering Scheme for Disabled Students: apply to the scheme

The Summer Volunteering Scheme for Disabled Students’ goal is to support disabled students in their volunteering by connecting them with an accessible opportunity with one of the LSE Volunteer Centre partner charities.

Sustainable Projects Fund: apply for sustainability project funding

The Sustainable Projects Fund awards funding to student- and staff-led projects that enhance sustainability at LSE. It is run by the LSESU Sustainable Futures Society with support from the sustainability team at LSE. Applications are submitted around December and January.

This seminar series, delivered by the LSE Volunteer Centre, explores societal issues and presents LSE students with opportunities to get involved in volunteering throughout the year.

Teaching Awards: nominate staff for an award

Every year during Lent Term, the LSESU gives students the opportunity to recognise and give thanks to members of staff who have made a positive impact on their time at LSE, through a number of different awards.

LSE Library offers opportunities to participate in user-experience research to help improve Library services. Keep up-to-date with news from the LSE Library on their School website.

Volunteering Appointment: book a session with the Volunteer Centre Manager

Book a one-to-one discussion with the Volunteer Centre Manager about anything volunteering related. The session lasts 15 minutes and can be booked on CareerHub 30 days in advance. Students and recent graduates are welcome to attend.

Volunteering Fairs: find out about and apply for volunteering roles

The Volunteering Fairs bring charities and students together to allow students to gather information and apply for volunteering roles for causes which they are passionate about. One fair takes place in Michaelmas Term and one in Lent Term.

The Welcome Team help to welcome new students to the School. The following roles are open to current or recently graduated students (including PhD students): Help Point Assistant; Campus Tour Guide; Felix the Beaver & Guide; Welcome Team Leader.

Widening Participation Pathways Mentor: apply to work as an LSE Pathways Mentor

The Pathways Mentor role is an opportunity for undergraduate LSE students to gain long-term and paid experience working with Year 12 and 13 students in an educational setting. Pathways Mentors play a supporting role in the delivery of either the Pathways to Law or Banking and Finance programme.

Widening Participation Student Ambassador: apply to be a paid Student Ambassador

The Widening Participation Student Ambassador scheme is an opportunity for undergraduate LSE students to gain experience working with children and young people. Student Ambassadors help deliver activities for 10 to 18-year-olds on campus, virtually and at other locations.

Widening Participation Thrive Mentor: apply to be a Thrive Mentor

The Widening Participation Thrive Mentor role is an opportunity for undergraduate LSE students to support the LSE Thrive programme, a sustained access programme for Year 12 students of Black heritage.

There are occasionally part-time work opportunities available for students to join the Digital Skills Lab team of trainers and tutors. Students can sign up to the mailing list to be kept informed of open positions.

LSESU Advice Service provides free advice and support to LSE students on a range of academic and housing issues, and administers a series of hardship funds.

LSE Research Exchange (RX) provides opportunities for students and recent graduates to support faculty research
