Each Winter Term, we run a survey to ask student residents what they think about living in halls. The feedback helps us to shape and improve our services.

Accommodation satisfaction survey 2024

Key results

  • 41.6 per cent response rate (down 17.4 percentage points on last year)
  • 75.5 per cent of residents would recommend their residence to other LSE students (down 8.5 percentage points on last year)
  • 72 per cent of residents felt that their residence offers good value for money (down 9 percentage points on last year)
  • 73 per cent of residents are aware of the Residential Life Programme (down 11 percentage points on last year)
  • 70 per cent of residents felt that there is a sense of belonging and community in their hall.

  • 59 per cent response rate (up 7 percentage points on last year)
  • 87 per cent of residents are enjoying their stay in residences (down 2 percentage points on last year)
  • 84 per cent of residents would recommend their residence to other LSE students (up 6 percentage points on last year)
  • 81 per cent of residents felt that their residence offers good value for money (up 7 percentage points on last year)
  • 86 per cent of residents found our reception and front of house teams helpful (up 11 percentage points on last year)
  • 84 per cent of residents are aware of the Residential Life Programme (up 2 percentage points on last year)
  • 84 per cent of residents are happy with the quality and variety of food in catered halls (up 14 percentage points on last year)

  • 80 per cent of residents feel a sense of community in their hall.
  • 89 per cent of residents are enjoying their stay in residences.
  • 78 per cent of residents would recommend their residence to other LSE students (up 6 percentage points on last year)
  • 74 per cent of residents felt that their residence offers good value for money.
  • 84 per cent of residents felt an overall sense of sustainability in their residence.

  • 47 per cent response rate (down 13 percentage points on last year however please note that the survey closed early due to coronavirus)
  • The most improved participation rate was not awarded this year as the survey closed early due to coronavirus.
  • 90 per cent of residents are enjoying their stay in residences (same as previous year)
  • 80 per cent of residents felt that their residence offers good value for money (up by one percentage point on previous year)
  • 85 per cent of residents would recommend their residence to other LSE students (same as previous year)

  • 79 per cent of residents felt that their residence offers good value for money (down by one percentage point from previous year)

  • Butler’s Wharf Residence won the prize for achieving the most improved participation rate.
  • 90 per cent of residents are enjoying their stay in residences (the same as in 2016)
  • 85 per cent of residents would recommend their residence to other LSE students (up from 83 per cent in 2016)
  • 80 per cent of residents felt that their residence offers good value for money (up from 75 per cent in 2016)

  • Carr-Saunders Hall and Passfield Hall both won the prize for achieving the highest survey participation. Both achieved a record breaking 100 per cent participation.

  • 90 per cent of residents are enjoying their stay in residences
