An international design competition was launched in December 2021 in collaboration with the Royal Institute of British Architects to redevelop 35 Lincoln's Inn Fields into the Firoz Lalji Global Hub.
Expressions of interest were sought for the creation of a new academic building of 12,540m2 GEA, which will house the Firoz Lalji Africa Institute, Executive Education, the Departments of Mathematics, Statistics and Methodology, the Data Science Institute and conference facilities.
Over 100 responses were received from architectural practices across the world, either as sole entrants or as part of multi-faceted teams and six teams have now been shortlisted:
- Alison Brooks with Studio Contra (UK and Nigeria)
- David Chipperfield with Feix and Merlin (UK)
- Dorte Mandrup and John Robertson Architects (Denmark and UK)
- Feilden Clegg Bradley with Lendager (UK and Denmark)
- Hall McKnight (UK)
- John McAslan + Partners with Tod Williams/Billie Tsien Architects and Marina Tabassum (UK, USA and Bangladesh)
A public exhibition of the design proposals and models for the six schemes will be displayed in the Great Hall on the ground floor of the Marshall Building, from 9 May to 23 May 2022.
A representative from each architectural team will be on site on Wednesday 11 May 10am – 5pm to answer any questions.
If you are unable to visit the exhibition in person, anonymised images and information about each scheme can be seen below. You can cast your vote and leave comments on your favourite scheme. This public vote will guide the official jury panel when it makes the final decision.
The shortlisted teams will present their proposals to the jury panel on 18 May 2022 and a final decision is expected by the end of May 2022.
The members of the jury panel are:
Baroness Minouche Shafik (Chair), Director of LSE
